January 2026
How’s that resolution going?
Flicking the switch from one year to another isn’t a magical portal to a healthier, wealthier, and stealthier you. Just ask Bill’s knees… But, a new year is always a great time to shake things up.

We are Coasting into 2026 with some fresh songs on our playlist, this fresh new site, and we are resolving to be even more connected to our Coast Community this year. We’re not flicking the switch to a whole new Coast; we are just promising to be your same, favourite radio station, only better. Kind of like Aiden, who promised us every Friday afternoon off. Our same, favourite boss, only better… right Aiden?!
It’s Epic
We hate to break it to you, but 1986 was 40 years ago. Sorry. We know that was hard to hear. But the good news is, the music of the 80’s has made a major comeback, so there’s hope for the Mount Pearl Curl. Better start stockpiling hairspray. Do they still make European Formula??
There is no surprise that the music of the 80’s has endured; it’s epic. Keith Soper has been playing this music since he had his own Mount Pearl Curl. We are so lucky to have him hosting the Epic 80’s Show on Coast every Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, sharing his take on some of the greatest songs of all time. We caught up with Keith, in between his Moonwalk lessons and shopping for deck shoes, to ask him how life is on the Coast.

12 Questions with Keith Soper.
Curious about what makes Keith Soper tick? We’re not either. But we’re always up for having a laugh with him, so we sat down and asked him a dozen questions to give you a little glimpse into what kind of fun he has on the Epic ’80’s Show.
Keith, Where are you from?
St. John’s. Well, the first number of years of my life I spent in Clarenville, but I’m pretty much a townie now.
How long have you been in radio?
I started in 1979. I was going to university, doing a political science degree, because I didn’t know what I wanted to do, and I got involved with MUN Radio (CHMR). And then one day the manager of Q93 approached some people at MUN Radio to fill some overnight positions, and I never looked back.
Out of all of the jobs that you’ve ever had, what was your least favourite?
Oh, Gosh… Construction? And it was outside, helping to build some of the crosstown arterial. My dad got me the job from somebody he knew. And I think I spent maybe two, two and a half days at it. And then I was like, I don’t think I like this anymore, plus I’m really sore…
Have you ever had a nickname?
My first name is actually Cecil. Not many people know that, but I guess the boys found out, you know what it was like. So, they always called me Cece. So not too bad.
If you could choose a nickname, What would you choose?
Lance.
Lance?!
‘Cause it rhymes with romance. Lance Romance.
That’s amazing.
So, you host the ’80s show on Coast. What is your favourite 80s karaoke song?
I know it’s not quite the 80’s, but it’s ‘Easy’ by the Commodores. 1977, I believe, but that’s the only karaoke song you’ll ever hear me sing. And I would probably win, so don’t try doing competitive karaoke with me.
I won’t! So it’s 1984, and you’re at a dance, What’s the best song for the last dance of the night?
Hey, it’s got to be a slow waltz with your last name Romance, so I’m gonna say something by Journey.
Do you have any brothers or sisters?
I do. Yeah. One brother, older than me, and I have three sisters.
If I was to call them up and ask them to tell me a funny story about Keith, what would they tell me?
Apparently, I was a miserable little Sh%# as a kid. And I’m talking, like, five, six, seven years old. They love me now, but, I know my older sister recollects about the time she was babysitting me, and held a knife to my throat. Probably not true, but, apparently I used to give them all the gears when they had their boyfriends over and stuff like that.
So, have you got any New Year’s resolutions?
Great question, and no. I used to do it, but I haven’t been doing it for years. I’m more of a goal setter, and I’m typically working two, three, five, ten years out. And for me, I’ll take the long term plan and break it into goals that I want to accomplish.
Great advice! Alright, here’s a couple of quick-fire 80s questions now: Prince or Springsteen?
Springsteen.
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off or Platoon?
Definitely Bueller. I love that silly stuff.
I bet you do. Thanks Cece.
